Somewhere, at some point, all religions started as a spiritual process. But in their eagerness to organize, they lost the fundamentals. Religion is just spirituality gone bad. Let us understand the distinction between religion and a spiritual process. The moment you say you belong to a religion, you call yourself a believer. The moment you say, “I am on a spiritual path,” you call yourself a seeker. What is the difference between believing and seeking? You can seek only that which you do not know and you are willing to know. You are seeking to know. When you are in a state of “I do not know,” you cannot fight anyone.

Spirituality & Religion.
In both religion and spirituality, there is a concern for that which exists beyond the corporeal, rational, and visible universe. Both attempt to provide a means for understanding or knowing that which lies beyond our physical, time-bound world. One aspect of the “beyond” is the notion of a supreme being. In religion, the being or being(s) is identified. In spirituality, there can be an openness to a supreme being, even perhaps a belief that something exists beyond what we can see, but also a tentativeness about just whom or what that is. A spiritually developed religious person may very well identify that entity as God. Whereas a spiritually developed nonreligious person may have no means (or no need for that matter) of defining that which lies beyond rational knowing. In fact, it is this notion of “beyond the natural world,” that is the supernatural, that differentiates the concept of spiritual development from personal development.
The nature of human intelligence is that if you do something stupid today, your intelligence will bother you tonight – “Why did I do this?” But if it is God-endorsed or scripture-endorsed, you can do idiotic things with great confidence. This needs to go. We need to move humanity from religion to a more responsible function.

I am a spritual person. I do believe in religions too but I am not a blind follower. I am a believer along with the power of seeking and understanding. I have a willingness to know everything and anything. I write this, by reading different spokespersons of spirituality and religion. You should visit these links and start discussing about this topic to everyone around you.
Happy Reading!
